Man Shot In Arm, Back By Apartment Complex Security Guard

Tuesday, April 15, 2008 – updated: 9:05 am EDT April 15, 2008

A man underwent surgery overnight after he was shot by a security guard at an Orange County apartment complex. Orange County deputies say the guard got into an argument with three men in a car in the Lake Weston apartments off Edgewater Drive late Monday night.

The car the three men were in was parked in the parking lot. According to the security guard, the argument escalated and he said the driver started the car and tried to run him over.

Deputies responded to the apartment complex about 9p.m.

"It's a bad neighborhood. I gotta move. That's ridiculous," said Keyomi Jones, a resident.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, three men in car were arguing with the security guard. The guard told detectives he fired his weapon several times when the driver started backing the vehicle toward him.

The wounded man was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he is expected to fully recover. Tuesday morning, detectives had yet to release the security guard's name.

According to some residents he hasn't been working at the complex very long.

"I just heard the new security guard, he did something to my cousin. Jacked him up against the wall a few days ago," Jones added.

"He had a temper?" Channel 9 asked Jones.

"That's what I'm thinking, if it's the security guard that's involved in this," she said.

Detectives finished interviewing the two other men who were involved in the argument around 3:15 Monday morning. It's unclear if the men were arrested or released.
