Residents Say It Took Firefighters Too Long To Respond To House Fire

Posted: 12:55 pm EDT April 21, 2008Updated: 1:03 pm EDT April 21, 2008

Some Volusia County residents are questioning why it took firefighters so long to show up to a burning house.

A house on Naranja Road in Debary caught fire Sunday afternoon. Flames were billowing out of the windows.

Neighbors said the Debary fire station is right around the corner, but it still took firefighters nearly 15 minutes to get there.

"The fire station is seriously a half mile straight down this road, so it shouldn't have taken that long for anyone to get here," said Marshall Lamming, who called 911.

The battalion commander for Volusia County Fire Services told Eyewitness News the first truck arrived just five minutes after the 911 call.

The one man inside the home made it out safely. The cause of fire remains under investigation.
