University of Florida President Bernie Machen has agreed to accept a committee's recommendations on restricted Taser use. He appointed the committee of faculty and students after a UF student who was Tased made national headlines.

The new policy, however, would still allow campus police to use a Taser stun gun against any student who disrupted a campus forum.

Student Andrew Meyer physically resisted being escorted from an auditorium by police and was Tased at a September forum with U.S. Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts.

Critics of Taser use have expressed concern that people who have pre-existing medical conditions may be placed at fatal risk when shot with the stun guns.

The report says the revised Taser guidelines try to strike a balance between the needs of security and law enforcement and the safety of detainees.
