Bazooka Training Round Found In Lake County Garden

Tuesday, April 29, 2008 – updated: 9:31 am EDT April 30, 2008

A man was digging in his garden at his home on County Road 33 in Okahumpka when he hit a metal object with his shovel on Tuesday. He immediately called the Lake County Sheriff's Office when he realized the object could be an old piece of military ammunition.

When deputies and members from the Hazardous Device Team arrived, they confirmed the metal object was a bazooka training round.

The device, which is about a foot long, did not contain any explosive material and posed no danger to anyone's safety. HDT Members took the object and will destroy it.

Investigators could not say how long the round had been there.
