Road Rage Incident Ends With Shots Fired

Posted: 10:59 pm EDT May 3, 2008Updated: 7:11 am EDT May 4, 2008

Orange County deputies say a case of road rage could have turned deadly. They’re looking for a driver who pulled out a gun and started shooting at another car.

Investigators say it all started on Old Cheney Highway just off of North Semoran Boulevard. The victims say between the shots, they were able to get a good description of the suspect, his car, and even his gun.

The bullets shattered the back windshield of the car and frightened the three young men inside so badly, they didn't want to talk. Instead, one of the boys’ mothers described what had happened.

Maribel Vargas says Saturday evening, her son was driving his car on Old Cheney when he tried to pass another car. A road rage incident sparked and the driver of the other car pulled out a gun and started shooting.

Orange County Sheriff's deputies questioned and took witness statements from Vargas' son and his two friends. They also collected bullets that were lodged in the back seat.

Vargas says her son is just weeks away from his high school graduation and she wants deputies to find the person who tried to take his life.

Deputies say they're looking for a black male, 20 to 25, with short black hair, large to medium build, wearing a gray t-shirt and glasses. The suspect was driving a silver two door newer model Ford Focus. Investigators say he also had a passenger, an Hispanic woman with black shoulder length hair.
