Stranger Finds Miami High Class Ring 50 Years Later, Tracks Down Owner

POSTED: 6:50 am EDT May 9, 2008

When David Perry lost his class ring at Crandon Beach 50 years ago, he thought it was gone forever.

But the Miami High grad got a surprising phone call this weekend at his home in Seattle.

A Davie teacher found his ring, buried beneath a foot of sand on the ocean floor, not far from the Key Biscayne coast.

Jorge Balmori and his sons like to spend weekends searching for underwater treasures with a metal detector. They found Perry's ring and tracked him down.

Seventy-seven-year-old Perry, who is a retired Naval Reserve captain and aerospace engineering manager, said he was stunned. He chatted on the phone with Balmori and said they planned to keep in touch.
