LAKE COUNTY, Fla. -- Firefighters in Lake County were on the scene of a fire that started around 4:00am in a mobile home park near Leesburg. The woman who lives in the home said popping sounds woke her up and that's when she saw the flames. The State Fire Marshall along with arson and explosion investigators arrived at the scene around 6:45 Friday morning. The homeowner tried to fight the fire herself with a fire extinguisher.A neighbor's dog started barking when he saw the flames and heard the loud popping noises and that awoke Sherri Stevens. Her neighbor's were able to help Stevens put some water on the fire and get out before it got worse.Once firefighters arrived, the fire was out of control. The flames were so intense they scorched two surrounding mobile homes.Stevens said she couldn't afford insurance on her mobile home, because she is barely getting by on the little money she brings in. In the middle of an interview with Eyewitness News, strangers walked up and offered to let her stay in the mobile home they own right around the corner.A State Fire Marshal investigator said he is pretty sure a bulb in a torched lamp is the popping sound Stevens heard. He believes there was some sort of electrical malfunction.
