ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A robber held up an Amscot at Colonial Drive and Alafaya Trail (see map) and he left something suspicious behind forcing the bomb squad to be called out.Detectives wouldn't say what was inside the container because of the ongoing criminal investigation, but the bomb squad did its job and blew up the package. The bomb squad's deliberate explosion barely disrupted Friday afternoon traffic on Colonial Drive. Detectives said they found no explosives."Obviously, we want to proceed very carefully with these type of incidents," said Cpl. Tim Farmer, Orange County Sheriff's Office. Two hours earlier, a robber passed a teller a bizarre note saying he would detonate the package unless someone left some money outside and then he ran out. He got no money, but the six workers were evacuated after the unusual robbery attempt.Amscot released a statement to Channel 9: "What this individual did not know is that Amscot branches are a thief's worst nightmare in terms of the redundant safety and security measures that we have in place."But, detectives said, there is no surveillance video of the suspect because no cameras were rolling. They're relying on the suspect's forensic evidence now. He's described as a muscular black man wearing a construction helmet and white cut off shirt.Because it's Friday and people want to cash their checks, managers at Amscot were focused on getting the place back open after the bomb squad and forensics teams left.
