PALM BAY, Fla. -- Skywitness nine captured the scene of a home as it burned in Palm Bay. The house on San Jose Avenue caught fire Tuesday morning.“Within 20 minutes it just snapped, crackled and went up in flames,” said Marisela Laracuente.Laracuente felt absolutely helpless. She watched in horror as flames shot from her next door neighbor’s house.“She said 'get up on the roof. Just wet the roof. Please save my house.' She was crying and screaming,” said Jose Hernandez, Laracuente's brother who was helping her prepare her house for the impending fires. And get on the roof is exactly what Hernandez did. Skywitness 9 spotted him on the roof with a garden hose. With Hernandez' permission, Channel 9's Gustavo Almodovar climbed onto the roof with him and took dramatic video with a handheld video camera. (watch Skywitness 9 video | watch reporter's video | see images)The fire started shortly before 8:00am Tuesday. From Skywitness 9 the devastation could be seen clearly. But from the roof, Hernandez said it felt like he was in an oven."It was crazy. I thought this house was gonna go too. The heat was so high, the roof started steaming," he said.Stephanie Vasquez and her husband spent the night at her in-laws' home. Tuesday morning the house they purchased a year ago was just a shell of what it once was.Fire officials said there were still hotspots flaring up at the home.
