Teen Who Tried To Hire Hit Man Over Spilled Beer Murder Is Sentenced

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

A man convicted of conspiring to kill five witnesses to a murder over spilled beer, will spend ten years in prison.

Nineteen-year-old Brian Mitchell was caught with a hit list containing the witnesses' names. He wasn't the person who killed Jamie Adair in May of 2006 but he did meet with an undercover deputies posting as a hit man.

Adair was killed after an altercation in a pub near the University of Central Florida where he apparently bumped someone and spilled a beer.

Mitchell's family believes he was set up with the list and pleaded with Judge Lisa Munyon for mercy.

"I just wanted to express my sincere condolences to the Adair family for the loss of their son. I'm very sorry for what happened… My son's a good kid, I love him very much," said Michael Mitchell, Brian's father.

Jamie Adair's mom had no doubt Mitchell's family was sincere. But she said that doesn't change the fact that the witnesses in her son's murder feared they might be next because of the hit list.

"Some of those people who were witnesses, as soon as they heard, they were scared and it wasn't right," said Becky Adair

Mitchell faced 18 years in prison, but was sentenced to 10 with credit for time served.

Jamie Adair's accused killer has yet to stand trial.
