COCOA, Fla. -- An accused arsonist was arrested Thursday after she set a small fire, because she was bored, investigators said. Police were dumbfounded by that reasoning.Residents at a Cocoa apartment complex (see map) allegedly caught Margaret Jean Kaderabek trying to set a fire just feet from a huge, dry wooded area. They believe she set as many as four different fires before police tracked her down. It's hard to understand what was going through the 56-year-old woman's mind when she allegedly set several very small fires overnight. If not for neighbors, police believe she could have burned a huge wooded area right next to the apartment complex she lives in."We got, like I said, calls from witnesses who saw her walking around, simply lighting palm frauns on fire for no apparent reason," said Det. Matt Turner, Cocoa Police Department.Detectives from Cocoa and Palm Bay interviewed Kaderabek, but found no connection to any of the big fires this week. But the idea that she watched TV coverage all week before deciding to try fire-bugging herself convinces police there are likely several arsonists at work in the county."When she spoke to us, her main thing is that she was walking around starting fires because she was bored. And that was very troublesome to us because a lot of people get bored and we don't want this to become habit for people," Turner said. Those who saw Kaderabek's work are stunned that anyone would try burning anything intentionally in this county."I think she's out of her mind. She's crazy," said neighbor Shawn Tyson.Kaderabek has no prior arrest record, but now she's charged with intentional burning of land. It's a felony that comes with a $2,000 bond. She can't be charged with arson, because that charge requires that a structure be intentionally set fire.
