ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- It's a brand new school and it's already facing a serious problem. A 16-year-old is accused of bringing a loaded weapon to Wekiva High School.Orange County deputies said the teen brought two guns and a knife to the school. He said the weapons were for protection.Wekiva High School is located on Hiawassee Road near Apopka. The school is brand new and it has a rule that whenever a student is not where he is supposed to be during school hours, he can be searched. A search Thursday of a boy's backup turned up two guns, one of which was stolen.A .32-caliber Smith and Wesson revolver and a .22-caliber Starr semi-automatic handgun were both were found in the backpack of 16-year-old Alejandro Puebla while he was on campus Thursday morning.Puebla told administrators right away he carried the weapons at school for protection, fearful of some men who wanted to fight him, and he thought they might come to the school. He had just one bullet with him, but news of the arrest initially scared students. The school activated its Connect-ED system Friday afternoon, which sent a phone message with information to parents. But even after all day at school, Eyewitness News found some students who still hadn't heard about the incident and said they wished someone would have filled them in."You don't just not tell us," said student Jasmine Blacksher.Puebla would not tell investigators where he got the guns. He's facing felony charges of having weapons and firearms on school grounds.
