"I can't bring my daughter back, but I sure can make the person suffer and pay for what they have done," said Rhonda Conard, the mother of Megan Hensley.Early Friday morning, a driver slammed into Megan and didn't bother to stop to see if she was okay. Troopers said if the driver had stopped, she may have survived. The girl's body wasn't found until three hours after she was hit on County Road 565A in Lake County (see map), not far from her home.Loved ones of Megan prayed Friday and asked for justice."I just want the person that done this to my daughter, and left her on the side of the road to die, to pay for what they've done," Conard said. The family says Megan left for a walk Thursday night and it would be the last time they would see her alive."About 7 o'clock last night, we got into an argument and she said she's going for a walk and she'd be back and she didn't come home," said Megan's sister, Alex Moore. The Florida Highway Patrol said Megan was run over from behind around 3:00am as she walked along CR-565A. The impact sent the girl flying into a power pole. Troopers said Megan was still alive after the impact, but the driver never stopped."What kind of animal would do this? I mean, there's nothing in the road. No attempt to stop. There's nothing," said family friend David Dickson.Investigators did find a very important clue, a round plastic cover from a headlight off a Nissan Xterra SUV. They believe the owner lives in the area."This is a local road. This is not a road travelled by many people not familiar with this area. We believe it's somebody that knows the cut-through, or lives here locally," said Trooper Kim Miller, FHP.Megan's family hopes somebody will spot the damaged truck."All I can ask is for the community to just help me and help the police try and find the person that done this to my daughter. That is all I want," Conard said.Family and friends dropped off flowers and stuffed animals at the scene while they wait by the phone hoping a call will come from state police with word of an arrest in the case.Troopers want to find the black 2007 Nissan Xterra and said it'll have some front end damage. Troopers said they found paint chips and a light cover from that type of truck at the crash scene. Anyone with information is urged to call the Florida Highway Patrol.
