PALM BAY, Fla. -- A 14-year-old girl ran from a man Tuesday morning while walking to school in what Palm Bay police are calling a possible abduction attempt. A composite sketch was released of the suspect Tuesday afternoon. The girl said she was walking to Southwest Middle School around 8:35am when she was approached by a black male in a vehicle at Eldron Boulevard and Entrada Street (see map). The teen said the man was driving a dark burgundy, 4-door vehicle with tinted windows, reportedly similar to a police cruiser. The girl told police the man told her to "come here" and then got out of his vehicle and began approaching the girl. Investigators said the girl told them she then took off, running toward her home, as the suspect returned to his vehicle and began to follow her. He then fled the scene. An adult eyewitness saw the vehicle and, investigators said, approached the girl to check on her wellbeing. Neither the girl nor witness was able to get a license tag."I just think it's terrible that a little child can't walk to school safely in broad daylight. It's more prevalent as time goes on," said neighbor Kenneth Keaton. The black male suspect is described as 5-foot-9, in his late 20s with tight braids to the neck line and wearing a white shirt and black basketball-style shorts.Anyone with information is urged to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous and can be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000.
