VIDEO REPORT: Pornography On Display At Store Exposed By WFTV Report
The store is located at the corner of University Boulevard and Goldenrod Road (see map). The materials were not only upsetting to some, they were also illegal. At Mona's Mini Mart, pornographic movies sell for $4 and you can check them out right at the check out."It's insane that it is right there," said 21-year-old Justin Abraham.Abraham, a WFTV intern, went inside with an undercover camera and found explicit magazines and XXX movies at eye level for kids. The DVD cases had very graphic sex acts on the cover, but state law says there should be "no display of materials harmful to minors."There is a sign on the rack of the DVDs that says you must be 18 to buy one, but the intern who made a purchase said there were no questions asked."If I buy a lottery ticket, I get carded, alcohol still get carded, so you would think buying pornography they would do the same thing, but they didn't," Abraham said.Eyewitness News showed the purchased DVD and undercover video to the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation. They said selling is okay, but the display is not."You want your child to walk in and be able to thumb through titles such as this? I would think not," said Commander Paul Zambouros, MBI.Those who live and work in the area are glad MBI stepped in."We have kids that come in here and then go over there to get a soda," said resident Sandy Hunsinger.Until Thursday, the pornography was on display, but the owners removed the material. Had they refused to remove the items Thursday, the MBI told Eyewitness News they would pursue charges. Since the store complied with their request Thursday afternoon, they will not face any legal action.
