Copper Thieves Making It Hot For Orlando Condo Complex Owners

Monday, June 9, 2008 – updated: 9:09 am EDT June 9, 2008

The summer heat is going to be especially difficult for some Orlando homeowners who lost their air conditioning. Copper thieves struck an Orlando condominium complex, damaging units for at least a dozen homes.

With repairs priced at more than $1,000 per unit, Robert Wilson and his wife say they won't be able to afford a new system.

"Hot, extremely hot," said Wilson. "It's uncomfortable, to say they least."

Residents believe the thieves got access to the roof in the middle of the day through a hatch in the hallway without anyone getting suspicious. Many residents now want security measures put in place to limit access to the roof.
