60-Year-Old Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Teen Student

Thursday, June 26, 2008 – updated: 6:04 pm EDT June 26, 2008

Palm Bay police arrested a 60-year-old Brevard County teacher late Wednesday night and charged her with 15 counts of unlawful sex with a 17-year-old male she taught days earlier.

"I saw police cars over [at her house] a couple days, taking stuff out of the house, so I knew something was coming down," said neighbor Walter Willis.

Adrienne LaFlamme of Palm Bay is a long-time employee of Brevard County District Schools and taught science at the Juvenile Detention Center located in Sharpes. It was there where LaFlamme taught the 17-year-old inmate.

Police say a few days after the inmate's release, LaFlamme made contact with the boy. They said she picked him up at his home and began a sexual relationship that lasted approximately four weeks. Police said during that time the two had sex at least 15 times, including one encounter where the two shared sex with a 14-year-old boy.

"I've never seen her with any kids. That's why this is very shocking to me and I just, it's hard for me to believe that," said neighbor Tammy Henry.

Later, police say LaFlamme left the area for vacation and allowed the victim to use her vehicle. After LaFlamme learned she was under investigation through a co-worker, police say she falsely reported her vehicle stolen.

According to police, further investigation revealed LaFlamme was prepared to lie to police and that she encouraged the victim to lie as well.

"This woman's actions are an absolute disgrace," said Palm Bay Police Detective Jasmine Campbell. "We have reason to believe there are other victims and it's important that they come forward."

LaFlamme is on paid administrative leave from the school district. She could also lose her teaching certificate.

LaFlamme also faces one count of filing a false police report. She's being held on $525,000 bond. During a hearing Thursday, she was ordered not to have contact with the 17-year-old victim or go near his home.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact the Palm Bay Police Department's Special Victims Unit at 321-952-3456 or CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-TIPS.
