ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Surveillance video shows a man who may be able to help investigators end a string of drug store robberies. Orange County sheriff's detectives released the video Thursday showing a person of interest in one of several recent drug store robberies.
RAW SURVEILLANCE: Person Of Interest In CVS Pharmacy Robbery
The video shot inside the CVS store around 3:00am June 15 captures a juvenile "person of interest" wearing a striped polo shirt. Detectives said the young man was casing the drug store. Detectives said he walked the length of the store, bought nothing and was in and out within two minutes."That's our belief [that he was casing the place]. It's our belief he went there as part of the plan to rob this pharmacy," explained Det. Jose Ramirez, Orange County Sheriff's Office.Thirty-six minutes later, two other men burst in and robbed the store on South John Young Parkway. Terrified workers were held at gunpoint and another was pistol-whipped in the attack.Detectives noticed the first man took off his polo shirt as he left the store. He was wearing all black underneath. They wouldn't say if that was a signal, but they're hoping someone knows who he is."If we can link this person to what we're doing, we might use this to help the case," Ramirez said.Since early May, at least five Orange County area 24-hour drug stores have been held up the same way, including a Walgreens in Orlando on June 20. Detectives said each is similar in the way it was carried out, but so far no one has been able to identify the violent men behind the make-shift masks.CVS would not give Eyewitness News specific information on its security measures. Of the 14 Walgreens stores in the Orlando area, only one has hired an off-duty police officer to guard its store at night.
