Ocoee Police Officer Under Criminal Investigation

Wednesday, July 9, 2008

The Orange County Sheriff’s office is investigating Ocoee Sergeant Tom Maroney because of allegations of a sex crime. Maroney was once the face of the Ocoee Police Department. As a community affairs officer, he worked hand in hand with the people of Ocoee.

Now there are allegations that Maroney committed a sex crime against a woman he recently met at a party. Maroney’s attorney, Mark Lippman, acknowledged that there was a party where Maroney and the woman met, but said the allegations of a sex crime are false.

The Ocoee Police Department placed Sergeant Maroney on paid leave and is conducting and internal investigation. So far, the details of the allegations against Maroney have not been released and no charges have been filed.

Eyewitness News spoke to a couple of other officers who said the allegations come as a complete shock to the Ocoee Police department. They have a hard time believing the allegations are true.
