Historic Golf Course Set To Open After Major Renovations

Posted: 6:32 am EDT July 10, 2008Updated: 7:24 am EDT July 10, 2008

Golfers will tee off Thursday at a historic Orlando golf course for the first time in more than a year.

Dubsdread Golf Course in College Park closed in March of 2007 while it underwent a major facelift that cost the city of Orlando millions of dollars. The city spent nearly $3 million dollars of its own money renovating this city-owned golf course.

The city of Orlando did receive some state funding to help pay for the renovation. The golf course closed last March for the massive project. Big repairs were done to the drainage system because it was so old. And the greens on the course were severely worn.

Some of the other major changes made with taxpayer money were several new ponds. The tee boxes are larger and there are 78 new golf carts.

The historic golf course opened in 1924 and it has only had a few minor renovations over the decades.
