People who live nearby heard the shots being fired. A man who lives in the second house down from where the driver and her passenger were first pulled over said it looked like a normal traffic stop until the driver took off down a dead-end street, turned back around and, the resident said, floored it toward a patrol car."When he passed my house, he was still picking up speed. After that, I heard eight to 12 shots go off," said Terry Wilson.Wilson heard the roar of an engine around 1:00am and then the police gunfire that left a bullet hole in the front grill of a green Volvo.Leon Hawkins is a cousin of the car's driver. He was following her in a different car at the time."I thought they was shooting at us. It was so close. So, I ducked down in the front seat," he said.Police said the driver was first pulled over for a routine traffic stop (see map). After a few minutes by the side of the road, they said, she suddenly took off down Franmar Court, a dead-end, and her passenger jumped out and ran."He jumped out and fled on foot. And there was no where else for her to go except back towards the officers," said Lt. Eric Jensen, Clermont Police Department. As the driver sped towards a patrol car, two officers fired, hitting the woman in the leg. Her brother, Dre, was also in the car following her."How would you feel if somebody got shot in your family? Law officers fire, car still in the middle of the road, crime scene and everything down there. But they're telling us, everything's okay," said Dre Dreyton, the woman's brother.Eyewitness News went to the driver's home and her stepfather wouldn't talk on camera. He only said that her mother was with her at the hospital. The driver was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center and officers said her injuries are not life-threatening. The passenger who ran down at the dead-end of the street was still on the run Friday afternoon, but police said they know who he is.
