The Walgreens pharmacy chain told Eyewitness News it still has not decided whether to hire security or close stores overnight to try to end the rash of robberies. The company admits that Orlando is front and center on their corporate radar for the sheer frequency of the armed robberies.Monday night, it was a store at the western edge of Pine Hills that two armed robbers held up at gunpoint, even as customers shopped just steps away.Surveillance video of the crime shows the two masked robbers pointing a gun directly at the Walgreens cashier and demanding money. The pair stormed the place at 3:09am Tuesday as Camille Previlon and her friend were picking up late night food."All of the sudden, all I heard was, 'Get down, get down!' So I just stepped to the back, cause I didn't want them to hear I was in the store," she said.Camille waited as the robbers scrambled around up front. Just about 40 seconds later, they were already racing out the front door with about $700 in cash. Surveillance video may help police find the suspects."We get a lot of info from the videos as to how they dress, how they act and can compare that to other robbers of a similar nature and build a profile on the robbers," explained Capt. Tom Cockriel, Orange County Sheriff's Office.By the time deputies arrived at the scene, the employees had already safely locked themselves up in the back storage room. Investigators said the robbery does match the pattern seen in other recent Walgreens robberies.Customers that Eyewitness News spoke to said some basic changes could help."I think they should just cut out the 24-hour period. That's it," said Pine Hills resident Yvonne Smith. "They really should [be closed at night] for the safety of the people that work there and the people who live around here."Walgreens said it's not that simple. They said they actually see more criminal incidents in daylight hours than overnight. A corporate spokesperson told Eyewitness News they are "constantly reevaluating" their security measures, but even after the 38th robbery this year, no changes are planned.
