Daytona Beach Officer Fired Over Free Coffee At Starbucks

Posted: 8:21 am EDT July 17, 2008Updated: 9:01 am EDT July 17, 2008

A Daytona Beach police officer has been fired over coffee.

According to an Internal Affairs report, Lt. Major Garvin threatened employees at a Daytona Starbucks. The store gives free coffee to officers, but he wanted a specialty drink.

The report says he told workers if they didn't make his latte, he might be slow to respond in an emergency.

"It's like it's a given right to them and they should get it just because they wear a uniform. That's not right," said one customer.

Lt. Garvin calls the allegations ridiculous. He took a lie detector test to prove he was telling the truth, but investigators say he failed it.
