Anthony's lawyer wanted the court to prevent the Orange County jail and the sheriff's office from releasing any more of her jailhouse conversations."Your position, Mr. Baez, seems to be, 'Just trust us. We're trying to do an investigation here. If we get anything we'll tell you about it. Just trust us.' Well, it just doesn't work that way," Judge Stan Strickland said.Baez argued recent audiotapes of 911 calls and calls Casey Anthony made from jail should stay out of the hands of the media, but the judge said Baez just didn't like the negative publicity and he decided the calls can still be released."Worst case scenario, it just looks like it may be more difficult to pick a jury, but we deal with that every day ... When push comes to shove, in a case like this, I'm gonna err on the side of the First Amendment every time. And I'm going to do so here by denying your motion," Judge Strickland said.Eyewitness News asked Casey Anthony's defense attorney some tough questions. Why can't she provide reliable information about a woman she says cared for her child for two years? What would it take for her to tell investigators what she knows about Caylee's disappearance? He didn't give straight answers.Casey Anthony laughed with her attorneys in court before her hearing started Tuesday, but after that she was still and quiet and still quiet about key information that could locate her missing daughter Caylee. The day Caylee's grandmother reported her missing, Casey told the 911 dispatcher Caylee was with her nanny, Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez. Two weeks later, the woman is a mystery."Why can't she help the investigators find this woman, if she used this nanny for a year and a half or two years. There's not a photograph, there's not a phone number, there's not a driver's license. There's not an address, 'This is where I dropped her off every day for two years.' Nobody understands that. Can you explain that?" WFTV reporter Kathi Belich asked attorney Jose Baez after Tuesday's hearing."First of all, she has not had ample opportunity to work with law enforcement. They arrested her after having approximately six hours with her," Baez said.Investigators said they got nothing but lies."Those questions can be answered in five minutes, how come she hasn't answered those questions yet?" Belich asked."If you fear some information might affect you or your daughter, I think that would be a viable explanation. There are certain issues that I can't and won't discuss because they are relevant in this case," Baez said."What would it take for her to sit down and tell what she knows?" Belich asked."That's something I've discussed with law enforcement. I'm not gonna comment on it. Ok?" Baez said."Is it immunity? You're asking for immunity?" Belich questioned."No, we haven't discussed any type of immunity," Baez said.Casey lost Tuesday's court battle to keep her jail calls and visits with her family private, but Wednesday she's hoping her $500,000 bond will be reduced. The 5th District Court of Appeals has asked for the results of a psychological evaluation and the Attorney General's response to her request for bond reduction. There's no word on when a ruling might come.
PARENTS SHOW UP AT JAIL, CASEY NOT THEREWhen Casey Anthony's parents went to visit her at the jail Tuesday morning, she was not there. She had already been moved to the Orange County courthouse for the Tuesday afternoon hearing.Casey's parents were surprised she was not at the jail Tuesday morning."We just want to have a great visit, guys. Just want to see her," Casey's parents said Tuesday morning when they arrived at the jail for a scheduled visit. After checking in at the jail desk, Cynthia Anthony expressed frustration over the media attention her granddaughter's disappearance has garnered."I've asked you guys to get back when I've tried to get into my home so people won't see how to get into my home," she said. The couple walked into the visitation center, but what they didn't know at the time was that Casey was not at the jail. She'd already been transported to court and, for security reasons, the family was not notified."No information is ever given. It sets the inmate up for ambush and puts our officers in harms way. So it's policy to never talk about transport outside the facility," explained jail spokesperson Allen Moore.Within a few minutes from arriving at the jail, the Anthonys made their way back to their waiting limo still not knowing why the visit had been cancelled. It appears that their visit will be re-scheduled. Meanwhile, Casey is scheduled to have a friend visit her Tuesday night. Each week she's allowed three 45 minute visits and each day she has about an hour to make phone calls.
TWO NEW CALLS RELEASED MONDAYTwo new jailhouse phone calls released Monday between Casey Anthony and her brother Lee don't reveal any new information about the case, but Casey seems confident that Caylee is still alive.
LISTEN TO CALLS: Call #1 - Short Call | Call #2 - Long Call
"Do you think Caylee is okay right now?" Lee asks Casey in the calls made on July 26."My gut feeling, as mom asked me yesterday, the psychiatrist asked me this morning, in my gut, [Caylee] is still okay and it feels like she's close to home," Casey says.Casey also tells her brother that detectives aren't having the same success investigating the case as he has."There are some things that I have told them that were misconstrued and not used to their benefit. I gave them the same resources I gave you and you found out a hundred more things than you did," she tells Lee.Casey's attorney is also appealing her $500,000 bond. The 5th District Court of Appeals in Daytona Beach is asking for results of a psychiatric evaluation by noon Wednesday before there's any ruling. Those results would likely be sealed from public view.Casey's brother Lee visited her at the jail's visitation center Monday and, instead of talking to reporters as he usually has, he sped away down John Young Parkway after ducking out a back gate and running as soon as Eyewitness News tried to ask him a few questions.Cynthia Anthony, the mother of Casey and Lee, said someone from the media actually chased them down the highway and Lee felt as though his life was in danger. The way she worded her reaction made her sound resigned to the fact she's lost Caylee."If I lose one more person close to me, because someone's chasing him and he gets into a car accident, that's not what everybody wants," she said. The family has been making claims recently that Casey has given them the names of the friends who had put her in touch with a woman named Zenaida Gonzalez, whom she claims was Caylee's longtime nanny."Two particular people that introduced her to Zenaida because they had children and that's how the connection was made," Lee told the media over the weekend.
CASEY SAYS SHE'LL TALK TO FBI, BUT HASN'TInvestigators said they've heard nothing new since Casey's string of lies. The Anthony's have also said recently that Casey wants to talk to the FBI."We've spoken to detectives about it and her attorney about it and it's up to them now to set things up," Cynthia said of speaking with the FBI.But detectives say it's totally up to Casey; she could do it at anytime. But so far, she hasn't asked to meet with the FBI.Casey's parents are set to visit her at the jail Tuesday morning and Casey's friend Stephanie Kostakis is scheduled for a visit with her Sunday night. Stephanie's MySpace page says "I love you Caylee Marie Anthony" and says her mood is "hopeful."Investigators won't say when they might released the videotaped visits Casey has had with her parents and her brother or the recorded phone call with her brother over the weekend.
