ORLANDO, Fla. -- Some say it was accident waiting to happen. Two vehicles collided Tuesday morning at Apopka-Vineland and Kilgore roads (see map), sending three people to the hospital, and it shut down the intersection. Neighbors say it's a dangerous road that they've been complaining about for a while."We need a traffic light here," said Eugene Dernbach, who lives in the Bay Lakes subdivision in Orange County.Dernbach said a near head-on crash that shattered glass and twisted metal is a sight he has seen one too many times."It takes somebody getting killed before they will really look at doing a traffic light here and I find that unconscionable," he said.Florida Highway Patrol troopers shut down the southbound lanes of Apopka-Vineland Road at Sand Lake to Kilgore for close to three hours Tuesday morning. Trooper Kim Miller said speeding could have played a role in the wreck.FHP said a white Jeep crossed the median barrier and hit a green Ford SUV. Two people in the green SUV and one person in the white Jeep were all taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and one passenger had to be cut out of the car.Dernbach wants to make sure it doesn't happen again."A petition is going to be recommended, and I'm going to participate in, in getting a traffic, at least a traffic study here and-or a traffic light," he said. The Jeep's driver was identified as 18-year-old Jeffrey Wallace. His injuries were said to be serious. The SUV's driver, 44-year-old Kenneth Creuzer, also sustained serious injuries. His passenger, 42-year-old Herbert Medburg, sustained critical injuries. Charges are pending against Wallace.
