Undercover deputies said it is becoming very common for drug dealers to try and overnight pot through the mail. Sometimes they ship even the boxes to the homes of unsuspecting people. The homeowner is gone and the dealers hang out around the front porch to pick it up.Investigators said 22-year-old Oriel Smith waited all morning for a special package to arrive. It wasn't a gift or a mail-order product. It was 13 pounds of tightly wrapped pot, worth $30,000 on the street. Deputies found it before the box got to him, so they decided to dress up and deliver it.Once Smith accepted the delivery, deputies took him down. Investigators said he's a Jamaican citizen who has done this before. He was out on bail for being busted for the very same crime earlier in the year.Deputies said Smith doesn't live at the house the marijuana was delivered to. In fact, investigators asked the location not be disclosed because it's quite possible the homeowner may not have known it was being used as a drop off point for drugs."They will ship it to unsuspecting people in houses, hoping it will be dropped off on the doorstep," said Cpl. Steve Davis, Orange County Sheriff's Office. The package came from Arizona and deputies think the marijuana was smuggled in from Mexico. Their message to other people waiting for such "special deliveries:" Ship it somewhere else."Don't ship drugs to Central Florida, 'cause we will be waiting for it," Davis said.Deputies said they can't go into details on how they knew the package had drugs in it, but they do work with various delivery companies to stop drugs from coming into the area.
