Fay Means Shorter Lines At Theme Parks

Wednesday, August 20, 2008 – updated: 7:04 am EDT August 20, 2008

Orlando is the heart of Florida's tourism industry, and Tuesday, all of Disney's parks were open. Dark clouds and rain didn't prevent families and friends from squeezing in rides at Disney World. Chicago native Mike Lucicolo figured he'd hit the park one more time after his flight was canceled.

"We were surprised that they canceled our flight because it didn't seem like the weather was that bad in Orlando. It's just a little windy and it's been drizzling all day," Lucicolo said.

Tourists combated the rain with ponchos. Tropical storm Fay didn't seem to scare anyone off, but tourists remained alert to any warning.

"We've been asking them what they're going to do, and they said if it gets really bad then we'll shut the park down, but we're just enjoying it until they do," said visitor Scott Moore.

A benefit to coming to a theme park with a tropical storm looming is the lines. There were modest crowds at Disney Tuesday and families didn't have to wait 45 minutes to get on a ride.

"Lines are very short so it's easy to get on. We were getting on a lot of stuff today," said Mike Lucicolo.

Wet 'n Wild didn't open at all on Tuesday. Sea world, Aquatica, and Discovery Cove all closed early Tuesday.
