Posted: 6:19 pm EDT August 26, 2008

A Seminole County firefighter accused of making racial slurs and charged with assaulting a police officer entered a written plea of not guilty Tuesday.

A police report says 20-year veteran firefighter Brett Leftwich was drunk in June when he made racial slurs and pushed a black Altamonte Springs police officer.

Leftwich was demoted and suspended in July, but is now back on the job. He's scheduled to be back in court October 15.
