Surfer Becomes 2008's 18th Volusia County Shark Bite Victim

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- Volusia County is living up to its title of "shark bite capital of the world." The 18th person of the year was bitten Wednesday off Volusia County beaches, already one more than last year's total of 17.

The county Beach Patrol said 27-year-old Alex Zgural was surfing in New Smyrna Beach when he was bitten twice, at least one of the times on his ankle. He was brought back to shore where he fainted.Zgural was taken to the hospital for treatment.
