Teen Sentenced For Role In Russian Roulette Shooting

PALM BAY, Fla. -- A Palm Bay teenager will not go to prison leaving the scene of the death of his best friend.Mike Varilone was sentenced to three years' probation and a $1,900 fine for fleeing the scene of a shooting where his friend died during a game of Russian Roulette. Varilone said he left because he was scared after seeing Howard Mills shoot himself last December. He took the gun, which he owned, and hid it in a wooded lot.Palm Bay detectives asked the judge to sentence Varilone to jail time because they said he intentionally slowed their investigation.Varilone was also sentenced to perform community service with the Palm Bay Police Department.
