UCF Takes Part Of The Bounce Out Of "The Trampoline"

Friday, September 5, 2008 – updated: 6:04 pm EDT September 5, 2008

The University of Central Florida now says it has taken some of the bounce out of the football stadium that students refer to as "The Trampoline."

UCF claims to have stabilized half of the stadium just in time for Saturday's game against the University of South Florida, one of their biggest rivals.

The move comes as welcome news to some who anticipate that the fans will be fired up.

"It's crazy, everyone jumping up and down," said student Julian Belilty.

The stadium's bounce had been captured by cameras in the past, but now the area where students sit is expected to stay put.

The other half of the stadium will be reinforced and made stable by October. The extra steel needed to fix the problem has already been brought to the stadium.

"It kind of felt like the whole stadium was a big tin can, like it was going to come down, but this year they definitely fixed it up, worked on it and made it the kind of stadium it should be," said student Daniel Rowe.

Rowe thinks the improvements will let him focus on the game. He thinks the Knights will beat U.S.F. for the first time in school history.

"I think we have U.S.F. this year," said Rowe.

Big crowds are expected for the game because it may be the last time U.C.F. plays U.S.F..

U.C.F. has called in U.S.F. police, for backup and to help control the rowdy crowd.
