Fire Damages Orange County Business, 50 Firefighters Battle Blaze

Monday, September 8, 2008 – updated: 12:39 pm EDT September 8, 2008

A fire erupted at a business in Orange County. Eyewitnesses said flames were shooting from the roof of Fiber Unlimited early Monday morning. Investigators said the business was heavily damaged in the fire.

A driver passing by spotted the flames from the street and called 911. The State Fire Marshal said a small electrical malfunction caused all of the damage.

"It extended into the motorcycle repair shop and there is a considerable amount of damage in there," said Jeff Holton of the Orange County Fire Rescue.

Firefighters said the blaze was so intense that it took more than one hour and 50 firefighters from Orange County and Orlando to put out the flames. They said the fiberglass inside the building helped fuel the fire.

"It makes it a little harder to put out because fiberglass burns rapidly and requires a lot more water to extinguish it," said Holton.

Business owner Carlos Romay left his hard drive at work this weekend, so in addition to valuable equipment and materials he also lost every file and work order on his computer. He does have insurance and plans to continue operating as best he can while contractors rebuild the site.

"I'm thinking I'm just going to get a tent, do it here. Got to keep going," he said.
