Palm Bay To Tightly Restrict Adult-Oriented Businesses

Friday, September 19, 2008

The Palm Bay city council will impose tough new restrictions on strip clubs and adult bookstores instead of clustering them together.

The council abandoned plans to try to cluster businesses into one district, Thursday night.

Instead, the council approved plans to treat adult businesses like sex offenders and place restrictions on how close they can be to schools, parks and day care centers. That's welcome news to nearby business owners.

"It's not so much the fact that they are going to have adult entertainment, it's the people that are drawn to that area," said Sue Shamrock. "Drug addicts, hookers."

Palm Bay's mayor said he would like to make the restrictions even tougher.
