BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. -- Eyewitness News broke the story Sunday night that an Orlando woman was killed during a Carnival Cruise dark-tube excursion. Monday, another woman came forward saying she was hurt on that same excursion two years ago.Patty Nuzzo said she filed a complaint and warned the cruise line that someone would die. However, Nuzzo said Carnival did nothing.Patty believes that letter is proof that Carnival knew it was putting that mother of three into danger."It finally happened. It finally happened. Somebody finally died, she said. When Patty heard an Orlando nurse had died while tubing through dark caves in Belize, she wasn't surprised. Nuzzo said she nearly lost her own life two years ago doing exactly the same thing. "I thought I was going to die. I thought for sure I was going to die," Patty said.Just like 52-year-old Linda Linan who drowned last Wednesday, Nuzzo was a passenger on the Carnival Glory cruise ship which she said advertised the cave tubing tour as a lazy float down the river. But she found herself in raging rapids and pinned under water as tubes piled on top of each other. All the while, she said the two guides responsible for a group of almost 100 tourists were nowhere in sight."It was up to my fellow passengers to rescue me," she said.Nuzzo mailed pictures of her bruised leg and side to the cruise line.In a letter, she the tour company "should have their contract with carnival terminated immediately. Our guides had no common sense or lifesaving skills."Patty said Carnival never took her complaint seriously claiming it wasn't responsible for the tour. Nuzzo disagreed."If they had taken it seriously, this woman may not have died, " she said.Monday, Linen's daughter said that her family did not want to comment publicly on their mother's death. However she did say that they are interested in Nuzzo's 2- year-old letter to Carnival Cruise Lines.
WOMAN DIES ON DARK-CAVE TUBING CRUISE EXCURSION IN BELIZE A Carnival cruise ship passenger from Orlando died over the weekend while tubing through caves in Belize. The 52-year-old nurse was reportedly healthy. She had even run a marathon recently, but the river was too much. Witnesses said the river she was tubing down was too full, the current was too strong, and that no one should have been in it in the first place.Witnesses also said a strong current forced Linda Linan and her husband Eduardo, to hit a cave wall and flip over. They were taking part in a ship-organized activity called dark cave tubing. An eyewitness who didn't want to be identified said he heard people screaming and just narrowly missed colliding with them himself."The river basically dead ended straight into a wall. The current was pushing people against a wall and tubes were going on top of people," said the eyewitness.Guests of the Carnival Glory cruise ship could only hear screams ahead."The guide just started screaming and yelling. There was a lot of yelling going on. Turn right, turn right," the witness said.Another tourist pulled Eduardo from the water, but Linda drowned. Witnesses said a nurse and a police officer along for the tour eventually performed CPR, but she never revived. In a statement issued Sunday, Carnival Cruise Lines said it has suspended all future sales of the cave tubing excursion and has launched an investigation into what happened.
