Two Men Steal Rare Crocodile, Four Alligators From Farm

Posted: 9:48 am EDT October 3, 2008Updated: 11:08 am EDT October 3, 2008

Two men were facing charges Friday morning for stealing alligators and a crocodile.

Four American alligators and a crocodile were found in Robert and Scott Hayes' backyard. The reptiles were kept in a concrete pond with a 3-foot fence around it.

Both men said they don't know how the reptiles got there, but investigators said the imported crocodile was stolen from an alligator farm.

"It was in good condition, the guy was feeding it and everything. It was easily identified. All of our animals have a micro chip under their skin," said Alligator Farm director John Brueggen.

The crocodile is a rare reptile imported from New Guinea.
