Teen Murdered Inside Orange County Apartment

Monday, October 6, 2008 – updated: 1:36 pm EDT October 6, 2008

Orange County homicide detectives were on the scene of a deadly shooting Monday. A man who was shot at the Silver Cove Apartments on Silkwood Circle died of his injures a short time later at the hospital.

The back part of the Silver Cove Apartments in Pine Hills was off limits for several hours Monday as investigators worked on Orange County’s 53rd murder of the year.

A 19-year-old man was shot several times at point blank range while his neighbors were getting ready to leave for the day.

"I heard something. When I opened the door to the bathroom I heard another gunshot," said neighbor Victor John.

The sheriff’s office said another neighbor called 911 around 8:00am. She told the operator that she heard someone banging on a door and then the sound of several shots fired after the person inside opened it.

Detectives said the teen victim lived in the apartment with his brother. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies said the killer took off in a tan or beige colored mini-van and hasn’t been seen since.

"We have one witness. She’s at this time talking to the detectives. Hopefully later on, depending on how much info she can provide, we’ll try to see if we can work on a composite," said Corp. Susan Soto, Orange County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff’s office said investigators are following up on a few solid leads.
