TEAM COVERAGE: Videos Released Of Casey, New Charges May Be Filed
On the same day investigators released surveillance video showing Casey Anthony on a shopping spree with someone else's money, Eyewitness News learned prosecutors are seeking new charges against Casey in the death of her daughter.Investigators and prosecutors believe they have a strong circumstantial case against Casey, strong enough to take it to an Orange County grand jury during a special session October 14. They don't have all the answers, they won't say whether Caylee suffered and they don't have Caylee's body, but they do believe they have a mother who killed her daughter.Orlando criminal defense attorney William Sheaffer says the move by prosecutors means they believe they have a strong case."The state attorney's office has the luxury of waiting until they have the strongest case possible," said Sheaffer. "There is no time restraint."Casey's inconsistent stories, paired with FBI lab tests that show Caylee is dead and that her body was at one time in her mother's trunk are strong pieces of evidence. But Sheaffer says there is most likely a lot the public doesn't know."What we do know presents a strong and if not damning case at this junction," he said.Prosecutors will take what evidence they have to the grand jury and let the panel decide what the charges should be, murder, manslaughter or maybe nothing at all right now until more evidence is found (Charge her with murder?).Casey reported her daughter missing months ago, but had waited a month before the child disappeared before going to authorities.
NEW VIDEOS, DOCUMENTS RELEASED IN CASEVideo released of Casey using alleged forged checks at area stores and banks was released Wednesday. The video doesn't show a grieving mother searching for her missing daughter. Casey Anthony was out shopping just weeks after her daughter Caylee disappeared and probably died.Casey bought plenty of things for herself during the shopping sprees, but not a thing for Caylee, no diapers, no children's toys, no little girl's clothing.Instead, Casey bought lingerie, beer and those big white sunglasses she's always hiding behind. She actually hit two Target stores within two hours. She even went home and changed clothes in between, right after she shopped at the Target on North Goldenrod Road.Casey Anthony walked into the Winter Park Target on the morning of July 10 dressed in all black. Her daughter had disappeared more than three weeks earlier, but she didn't appear to be in mourning. Casey bought the big white sunglasses she's always wearing, bras, camisoles, chemises and she bought the blue hoodie (see hoodie) that she wore the first time she was arrested (see receipt).Video shows her fidgeting when the cashier was about to verify the check, but the cashier never really took a close look even though Casey signed Amy Huizenga's name to the check and used her own driver's license as identification (read Huizenga's statement). An hour and a half later, wearing the new white sunglasses and a totally different outfit, Casey Anthony walked into the Target on Alafaya Trail. She bought Bud Lite and a lot of food, but again nothing for her daughter Caylee. She was in the same store two days earlier, also paying with an allegedly stolen check. It appears Casey never had to lie her way through at Target stores, at the Winn Dixie, where she bought more beer, or even at the Bank of America on South Conway on July 15, the day before she was arrested. At the bank, she walked up to the teller window, wearing a cross around her neck and looking right at the security camera until the teller handed her the $250 in cash for the check she wrote (see check) and she leaves with a smile.Later that same day, Casey's mother tracked her down and called police to have her arrested after finding the family car at a tow lot smelling like, in Cindy Anthony's words, a dead body had been in the trunk and not finding any trace of Caylee.
CASEY'S ATTORNEY FILES MOTIONS, HEARING FRIDAYCasey now wants to be able to hide behind more than just the big white framed sunglasses. Her lawyer, Jose Baez, filed an 11th motion Wednesday for a scheduled court hearing Friday (read newest motion | other motions).Baez now wants Casey's schedule completely sealed from public record. She is on home confinement and has to get permission every time she leaves the house.Casey is expected to be in court Friday morning,
DEPUTIES SET UP CAMERA TO MONITOR ANTHONY HOMEThere was another big development Wednesday regarding protesters in front of the Anthony house in east Orange County. Not only are Orange County deputies increasing patrols in the area, they said Wednesday they also have a surveillance camera in the neighborhood. That way, deputies can monitor it to make sure the protesters don't get out of hand.
EQUUSEARCH SAYS THEY WILL SEARCH AGAINWith all the commotion around Casey, her daughter Caylee's body is still missing and there is currently no effort to find her.But Eyewitness News learned Texas-based EquuSearch is going to come back and search for her body near Orlando International Airport. They just haven't said when. The group called off its original search because of flooding from Tropical Storm Fay.
