ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A man who abandoned his newborn baby while running from deputies faces several new charges. 23-year-old William Allen spent Monday night in the Orange County jail after a bizarre incident involving his own infant son.An eyewitness first noticed William Allen at a gas station on Goldenrod Road. A woman, who wished to remain anonymous, followed Allen to the Winn Dixie supermarket across the street."He was running across the street with a baby and dodging traffic," said the witness. She watched him for 40 minutes then called 911."He was just standing there. He had no diaper bag, no bottle, nothing. I just told them at least check it out. The worst it could be was nothing," she said.Police said that when the deputy arrived, Allen took off."He ran through the Winn Dixie and out the rear door. He then jumped a fence into a neighborhood," said Commander Spike Hopkins of the Orange County Sheriff's Office. It took deputies almost an hour and a half to track him down."I asked them 'Where's the baby'. They said they hadn't found it, then no less than 5 seconds later here comes the baby," said the witness.Deputies said they found the missing newborn wrapped in a blanket, inside a garbage bag, and left in a box behind a home near SR-417 and Lake Underhill Road."I said 'Dude, you placed your kid in a trash can.' He said, 'I just put it down.' There was no emotion, nothing," the woman said.Deputies said they found Allen with marijuana and in addition to violation of probation, he'll face aggravated child neglect and attempted felony murder charges.
