Disney Opening Exclusive Health, Wellness Center For Cast Members

Wednesday, October 15, 2008 – updated: 12:49 pm EDT October 15, 2008

Tens of thousands of Disney workers and their families now have access to an exclusive health and wellness center. Disney held the grand opening for the state of the art facility Wednesday. It's a brand new wellness center Disney hopes cast members will visit on a regular basis.

The folks at Walt Disney World are celebrating the grand opening of a different kind of attraction, a $6 million, 15,000-square-foot facility that is sure to be visited by some 40,000 Disney workers and their dependents.

"It is a beautiful, warm, inviting place with a focus on helping our cast members think about wellness," explained Walt Disney World President Meg Crofton.

The new primary care clinic is located behind Epcot. Cast member Earline Myles is already thinking of the added convenience the on-site health and wellness center will bring once it opens for business next Wednesday.

"Now you don't have to call in and take an extra day off work to go to the doctor. You can come here after work or before your shift started," Myles said.

Patients will have access to a pharmacy, they'll be able to take x-rays and get lab work done all under one roof. And, because the wellness center will be operated by a separate entity, Take Care Health Systems, people's medical records will be confidential.

"It's perfect! I love it! The first day I heard about it I was very excited," Myles said.

The medical director said the facility is geared to accept all 40,000 fulltime cast members. He said there are plans to expand if necessary.
