Suspects Terrorize, Rob Two Orlando Fast Food Restaurants

Posted: 5:43 pm EDT October 30, 2008Updated: 5:46 pm EDT October 30, 2008

Police want to find the group of armed robbers who terrorized and robbed people at two different restaurants. The men wore black hoods and pointed a gun as they made their way through a Taco Bell and a Burger King.

Both restaurants are in Orlando on Narcoossee Road (see map) and both were hit at almost the same time Wednesday night. There were at least three people involved.

One man charged into the Burger King around 11:00pm carrying a gun and demanding money. At the same time, two others hit the Taco Bell only 100 feet way. They had guns, too, and used them to pistol-whip three employees before taking over $1,000.

"I'm happy to still be alive," employee Danny Ortiz told Eyewitness News.

He was working when two men barged inside waving guns.

"I heard, 'Get on the ground! Get on the ground!'" he said.

Ortiz and the other employees inside cooperated, but that didn't seem to matter. After taking cash, they pistol-whipped three of the workers, including Ortiz.

"I got really scared. I thought they were going to shoot me, too," Ortiz said.

While the Taco Bell was being terrorized, at least one other man went inside the Burger King only a few feet away across the parking lot. He took money as well, but there were no reports of injuries in that robbery.

Eyewitnesses saw three men getting into a black car and driving way. Investigators believe that it was a well coordinated attack.

Ortiz just moved to Central Florida a couple of months ago. He came from New York and thought he was getting away from things like this by taking a job in what he thought was a safe neighborhood in the Lake Nona area. But after Wednesday night, he's not so sure.

"I'm paranoid. Last night, I didn't get to sleep until 5:30," he said.

Because all of the men were masked, investigators have very little to go on at this time.
