Deputies Responding To Carjacking Make Arrest In Unrelated Stabbing

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Orange County deputies were already at a condo complex investigating a carjacking overnight when they saw a man chasing another with two knives. Deputies said it's part of a recent rash of crime in and around the Tymberskan Condos on Skan Court.

Deputies are very concerned about the rise in violent crime there. The number of crimes is actually going down slightly, but the number of violent crimes is going up, including the two overnight.Artelia Billings' 24-year-old brother was jailed after deputies said he stabbed a 24-year-old man several times overnight. Billings said her brother has been in trouble with the law before."He's been in jail ever since he was 13, so it ain't no big," she said.Orange County sheriff's deputies were called to the Tymberskan Condos complex off of Skan Court overnight first for a carjacking, but minutes later deputies said they saw Cory Billings running after a man he had just stabbed with a couple of knives."Deputies had to use a taser to apprehend the suspect," explained James Sykes, Orange County Sheriff's Office.The Tymberskan community and surrounding area is one of the busiest spots for deputies. Year to date, the sheriff's office told Eyewitness News they've responded to the area a total of 27,510 times.Almost daily, off-duty deputies will park their cars at the Tymberskan condo main entrance. They said a presence helps to reduce crime.As for Billings, he's in jail on attempted murder charges. Billings' sister said her brother has anger problems."With people just messing with him, he got temper problems, so he's gonna click like that," she said.The victim was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition.As for the carjacking, the stolen 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was last seen driving toward the exit of the complex.
