Teen Burglary Suspects Found Hiding Inside Bathroom Cabinet

Posted: 1:18 pm EST November 13, 2008Updated: 6:01 pm EST November 13, 2008

Deputies arrested two teenaged brothers Thursday in the Belle Vida subdivision near Avalon Park in connection to a series of burglaries.

Investigators said 16-year-old Chris Clark and his 14-year-old brother Jordan rang the doorbell of a home on Cortona Drive (see map) on Thursday morning, possibly trying to find a house where no one was home. A woman answered and the juveniles asked to borrow a screwdriver, but sent them away.

The woman was suspicious and continued to watch the two teens when they left her house and saw them go to the neighbor's home. She said she saw them knock on the door and proceed to the back of the house, where she saw them attempting to enter a screen patio. She immediately called 911.

At the same time, the resident of the home the teens had knocked on finally came to the door and found no one outside. He went to the back of his home and saw the teens fleeing. He, too, then called 911.

The woman was able to follow where the teens ran, entering a vacant home on Belle Vida Boulevard. A K-9 led arriving deputies to the home, where the front door was left open, and the dog was able to locate the teen suspects hiding inside a cabinet inside the second-floor master bathroom.

The 14-year-old was bitten by the K-9 and taken for treatment, while the 16-year-old was taken into custody.

Orange County Sheriff's Office investigators believe the brothers may have been staying in the vacant home for a couple days and had told their parents they were staying with friends. Both teens are now facing charges for Thursday's two burglaries and one attempted burglary and the 16-year-old may face charges for a burglary nearby that happened two days earlier.
