Home Invasion Plan Foiled After Police Get Tip

Posted: 6:13 am EST November 19, 2008Updated: 1:05 pm EST November 19, 2008

Oviedo police stopped a home invasion before it even happened Tuesday night. Investigators said four suspects were after drugs, but the homeowner said that's wrong.

Officers acting on a tip showed up a home near SR-434 and Magnolia Street in Oviedo. They spotted the suspects arrive and one gave up at the home. Another was caught at Millinocket Lane after a high-speed chase.

The targeted homeowner told Eyewitness News the only drugs he has in his house is what he showed police, a few pain pills for his back.

John Boston lives at 55 East Magnolia Street in Oviedo (see map). Police said his home was targeted by a group of four armed men overnight.

"I just moved in here a month ago and someone is trying to come here and rob a home with guns," he said.

However, the attempted home invasion was foiled because Oviedo police had solid intelligence and were in place and ready to go when the bad guys moved in.

"They set up surveillance teams and we were targeting somebody that was coming out there to target a specific house," explained Lt. George Ilemsky, Oviedo Police Department.

Police were after 21-year-old Bradly Stanford. When cops surrounded the suspected burglars, one guy gave up and the three others hit the gas.

The Seminole County Sherriff's Office helicopter followed the stolen white Ford Explorer for about 15 miles, from Oviedo to Millinocket Lane in Orange County (see map).

"I seen on the news this morning I see them putting the guy in the car," Boston said.

Two other suspects got away. Police believe the bad guys were after drugs.

"Not here, not at this house," Boston said.

Investigators told Eyewitness News on Wednesday they feel confident they will track down the other suspects who attempted to break into the home.

"Of course, we got two of the guys and they are cooperating and perhaps it will be only a matter of time. We will get these guys who bailed at out on us," Lt. Ilemsky said.

Stanford was jailed on charges of attempted home invasion and aggravated assault with a vehicle. The other suspect arrested hasn't been identified.
