Suspect Wearing Goggles Robs McDonald's

Posted: 7:08 am EST December 3, 2008Updated: 8:36 am EST December 3, 2008

Orange County deputies were investigating whether or not a string of fast food robberies are connected. A worker was robbed at gunpoint and then hit over the head inside the McDonald's restaurant on Oak Ridge Road and Orange Blossom Trail (see map) late Tuesday night.

A few hours earlier, deputies said the Kentucky Fried Chicken and Long John Silvers on Conroy Road was also robbed.

Investigators said a suspect entered the 24-hour McDonald's carrying a black revolver and grabbed the entire register. However, before the suspect left the restaurant he pistol-whipped the worker, leaving him bruised and shaken.

"He went directly to the register and pointed it at the employee at the register at the time," said Detective Jonathan Dantes of the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives said they will be going over surveillance video Wednesday morning. They believe the same suspect robbed a nearby KFC and he may also be behind an Arby's robbery that happened Monday.

Investigators said the man wore bright yellow goggles during the McDonald's hold up.

"A lot of commercial establishments are getting robbed. Probably just the season, so it’s definitely a concern of ours," said Dantes.

Investigators said they found the cash register at a nearby Knight's Inn.
