Posted: 10:11 am EST December 4, 2008Updated: 12:26 pm EST December 4, 2008

Altamonte Springs police hope that surveillance video will help them find the man that stole a bird from a pet store.

Police said a multi-color Jenday Conure bird was taken from the Petco on Altamonte Drive (see map) on November 8. They said a man forced his way into the store's locked aviary and after a short time inside the caged area, the man quickly left the store.

Investigators believe the thief stuffed the bird in his pocket.

The subject is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 40 years of age, six feet tall and approximately 200 lbs. He was wearing a black and white striped shirt and dark color cargo shorts.

Police said the exotic bird is valued at $599. Anyone with information concerning this crime is encouraged to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
