ORLANDO, Fla. -- With one player dead, another in the hospital and a losing season just over, some groups are calling for UCF head coach George O'Leary to be fired.O’Leary has seven years left on a contract that pays well over a million dollars a year. Many believe students are behind the firecoacholeary.com website that has been posted on the internet.Pre-med student Alyssa Miller remembers the good times of last year’s Conference U.S.A. championship."I remember a ton of people friending Coach O'Leary on Facebook, and writing all these comments telling him what a great coach he was, and how valuable he was to UCF," said Miller. But the new site is critical of the team's record and O'Leary's training philosophy."I can see how people would feel he might be pushing them too hard. Because we were conference champs last year," said UCF junior Saige Kaufman. The death of player Ereck Plancher (see related story), and hospitalization of another, Brandon Davis, (see related story) both after intense workouts, triggered many messages: including, "pushing someone 'till he dies, yes, there is a problem."“Should he be held responsible for the injuries and death that have occurred during UCF football practices? Yes,” said senior Rick Abbott. “But fired? Probably not."But Abbott is afraid most students care more about winning over the health of the players.Alyssa Miller questions the timing of firecoacholeary.com and the negative Facebook comments."It's just ironic that we're having a bad season, and this website comes up," she said.University officials would not comment on the website.
