Mexican Navy and U.S. Coast Guard boats and helicopters are searching the water off the Caribbean resort of Cancun for an American woman who reportedly fell from a cruise ship.

A U.S. Coast Guard search-and-rescue crew using a C-130 aircraft was looking for newlywed 36-year-old Jennifer Seitz of Winter Haven late Sunday. Seitz's husband reported her missing from the Norwegian Pearl cruise ship just before 5 a.m. EST Friday.

Mexico's Fifth Naval Regional Command said in a statement it had found no sign of Seitz. The search was taking place just over 17 miles east of Cancun and beyond. Crews have covered more than 2,500 square miles searching for Seitz.

Norwegian Cruise Line said the ship returned to Miami Sunday after a seven-day western Caribbean cruise.

Passengers aboard the Norwegian Pearl said they talked amongst themselves about the incident.

"It's pretty frightening. I mean it was you know, that night and from the rest of that point on, it was the topic of conversation with everybody I met. I was traveling by myself," said passenger Greg Anderson.

Agents confirmed that there was surveillance video showing a woman falling overboard on Christmas night.

In Winter Haven, neighbors of Jennifer Seitz said they were shocked and saddened to hear she had disappeared from the cruise ship.

"That's really sad. I feel awful, I would feel awful if it happened to my daughter," said neighbor Kathy Hoyt.

A close friend of the family said Seitz and her husband lived with her mother in a home on Knotty Pine Drive (see map) . Seitz's mother rushed to Miami as soon as she was notified.

The FBI is investigating and agents have said little other than they are working to rule out both foul play and suicide.

Since 2002, more than two dozen passengers have been reported missing from various cruise ships.
