OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. -- Agents say an Osceola County corrections officer was dealing drugs on the side, including to inmates behind bars. Investigators said the officer was essentially a drug deliveryman, getting money from the inmates and buying drugs for them, while skimming a little bit of cash off the top for himself.Agents with the Osceola County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Enforcement Team worked with the Osceola County Corrections Department to arrest 30-year-old Eric Sosa, an Osceola County corrections officer.Acting on a tip that Sosa might be smuggling narcotics into the jail, agents conducted an undercover operation on New Year's Day. Undercover agents posing as drug dealers on the outside gave Sosa $525 to pick up just one ounce of marijuana and sneak it into the jail."He was on shift, but he left on his break, met up with the agents and got the marijuana from them and, at that point, was taken into custody," explained Twis Lizasuain, Osceola County Sheriff's Office.Agents said Sosa didn't go out of way to keep a low profile. When he met them at a McDonald's to pick up the drugs, they said he was in full uniform."He was very calm. He cooperated with authorities," Lizasuain said. While investigators don't think Sosa was actually selling the drugs, he still faces felony charges for making the delivery."He was a trained corrections officer. He knew what the penalties were. He knew what the law was. He decided to break that law and there, in turn, became a criminal," Lizasuain said.Sosa was booked into the Orange County jail, because he knows so many corrections officers and inmates at the Osceola County jail, on charges of possession on drug paraphernalia, possession of cannabis with intent to sell, introduction of contraband into a county facility and bribery.
