DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Three shootings took place in Daytona Beach overnight Sunday within the span of a few hours. While police don't think the shootings are connected, it highlights concerns over possible crime problems for the city, but police just recently announced crime was down in the city. The first shooting happened right on the side of the road on the edge of a usually quiet beachside neighborhood. There was some type of argument, police know that, but then the driver of a car threw open his door to hit the boy and then, as the teen ran, he was shot in the back."What if that was us? What if we were sitting over here," eyewitness Brad Angel told Eyewitness News.Angel and Todd Millwater heard the shot fired Sunday night and were somewhat surprised to find out not only was someone shot, but the victim was someone they knew, 15-year-old Dillon Carlisle."We saw the dude get put in the back of the ambulance and everything. It was pretty intense," Angel said.Police had little time to linger though, because at almost the exact same time and four miles away, a man was shot in the leg by two masked gunmen at the Windy Pines Apartments. It followed an argument.Later, there was another report of a man being shot on a street corner along Madison Avenue."None of these are related in any kind of way, just random incidents that just happened to be happening almost at the same time," explained Jimmie Flynt, Daytona Beach Police Department. The string of shootings comes after a year where police made progress on violent crimes. Homicides remained even in the city at eight, but unofficial numbers show assaults actually dropped nearly 10-percent. The main crime problem has actually been shoplifting, not violent shootings.Police had perimeters and dog teams out chasing suspects Sunday night, but haven't been able to make an arrest yet in any of the cases.
