ORLANDO, Fla. -- Governor Crist spoke at a job fair and seminar in Orlando Thursday at the historic Plaza Theatre. The event is part of a job fair series called "Putting America back to work." (complete job fair info)Fifty companies were there and they were looking to fill more than 100 positions. Mark Molnar was first in line."There are jobs out there, but there are more people looking for jobs than actual jobs out there," said Molnar.Nearly 1,500 people were expected to attend."We'll have about 50 companies here hiring Central Florida people to get them back to work," said Patrick O'Brien with Orlando Employment Guide.After a quick pep talk from Florida governor Charlie Crist, the unemployed got to work and packed the event room."There are several opportunities available," said job seeker Betty Graham.The job fair organizers say they focused on giving job seekers want they really want and need, which was less school recruiters and more companies actually hiring workers when they attend a job fair.The FBI is looking for agents. They're offering $65,000 a year. Tiburon Associates is looking for an engineer and they're willing to pay $100,000 a year.Spinnaker Resorts has positions starting at $7.25 per hour."You have to be positive. You go on interviews. There are so many looking for work," said job seeker Sandra Gordon.With jobs are hard to come by nowadays, the economy's tanking and layoffs are on the rise. Approximately 100,000 people are without jobs in Central Florida.The job fair and seminar event runs from 10:00am until 3:00pm at the Plaza Theatre, located at 425 N. Bumby Avenue in Orlando.
